OpenStreetMap contributors, through the initiative of Project NOAH, have now completed mapping the province of Cavite!
Increase in building footprints of Cavite.
Since March 2016, OSM contributors have been adding building footprints to better present disaster preparedness measures to the province’s local government unit officials. This way, officials down to the barangay level will be able to easily assess the needs of the whole population in case of an impending threat of an extreme weather disturbance.
Project NOAH’s mapping initiative in Cavite helped increase the total structures mapped: from 110,506 to 631,825.
The information from Project NOAH website tools and OpenStreetMap data is practically designed for the benefit of LGU officials in the Philippines. This is because the website information can serve as strategic guide to emergency response and disaster mitigation planning.

The building footprints obtained from the OSM community is translated through the OSM data. The information from these data is automatically integrated to the website tools of Project NOAH, specifically in the WebSAFE application.
WebSAFE is a software that analyzes disaster impacts based on available hazards and infrastructure maps. This tool can help community leaders and other stakeholders to prepare for and respond to inevitable threats of disasters.
Since its inception, one of the efforts of Project NOAH through its Integrated Scenario-based Assessment of Impacts and Hazards (ISAIAH) component has been for mapping the Philippines. This capacity building effort opens door to a more reliable disaster risk reduction and management not only in Cavite but for the whole country as well.

Project NOAH utilizes HOT Tasking Manager because it is specifically intended for crisis mapping. This mapping tool is essentially designed and built for Humanitarian OSM Team collaborative mapping. This way, OSM mappers around the world can contribute to any mapping initiative, thus counting in the efforts of Project NOAH.
